Mixed Results

In November I went to see my primary care doctor for what I thought was an ear infection. The doctor said my ear was fine that I was just stressed out and grind my teeth at night. Surprise, surprise...

He decided to run some "routine" (if there is such a thing) blood work. After him calling me with the results and giving me definative diagnosis of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. OF WHAT?!?! This is not something I had ever heard of. Long story short, it is when the bile ducts in your liver get blocked and scarring begins to occur resulting in cirrhosis. A liver transplant is eventually required. This disease is normally not diagnosed to people in their 30's its normally women aged 50-60.

My primary doc referred me to a liver specialist who again ran yet more blood tests scheduled a CT with contrast and a biopsy of my liver. The biopsy was completed last week and I received the results today. Blood work ordered by my liver doctor indicated also that I do indeed have PBC, however, my biopsy showed nothing of the sort. The report indicated no scarring or blockage just mild to moderate inflamation around the bile ducts.

The doctor believes the PBC is in very early stages or I have some other type of auto immune condition that has not yet shown up. I have in the past been diagnosed with borderline rheumatoid arthritis, though I've rarely had actual symptoms. I do have Raynaud's syndrome, this is when my hands turn white from having NO blood in them. The blood vessels constrict and cut off the circulation.

For the next three months I will be taking medication for the PBC to see how my blood tests look then. Let's hope for the best!
